When I first saw previews for The Notebook I wasn't sure if I would like it. There were parts of it that caught my eye and parts that said it was going to be too much of a romance for me to enjoy.
The movie starts off with an old man reading a story to an old woman in present day. I found this a great way to start off the movie as it gave me the feel of a story being told to me. Other movies that have done this successfully are The Princess Bride and Big Fish. So I was happy that it started off with a good idea.
The movie follows the story of a young man by the name of Noah and his story about falling in love with Allie. This is a nice throwback to the old times just before WW2 and I thought it did a great job. We continue down the story with different obstacles being thrown at them: Noah going to war, Allie's parents, and time apart from one another, to name a few.
At times the story stops and we are brought back to the two old people reading and listening to the story as it progresses. I found this to be a great way to break up the major changes that happen through out the story.
The acting was great as were the costumes and the sets. I was brought in from the start and couldn't stop watching until the end. Now while I found the movie a little predictable, it was still very good. The movie is by far one of the biggest tear-jerkers I have seen in a long time and it even got me to shed a couple. If you are an action movie person this isn't for you, but if you want a great romantic story that will keep you going from the first spoken words then this is the movie for you.
