The Incredibles

About a day after this movie came out in the theater I read a story how some of the major motion picture companies were going to sue Pixar for consistently making good movies. I had already wanted to see this movie, but this article really made me want to go out and see it right away.

The Incredibles follows a family of super heroes after it is deemed by the government that "supers" are to keep their secret identity their only identity. This is because a super hero saved a suicidal man and caused him injuries. I found this part to be extremely funny as the guy said "I didn't want to be saved" and as far as I know suicide is still illegal.

So two "supers" get married and have some kids. Mr. Incredible works as an insurance-claims guy and Mrs. Incredible (aka Elasta Girl) is the stay at home mom. They have three kids, two of whom have powers, and the third does not.

The plot is about how Mr. Incredible goes back into "secret" super hero work stopping a robot that has gone a little crazy. Of course the robot is controlled by Syndrome who is a wanna be super hero (he has no powers other than via inventions). The entire family (less the baby without powers) is forced to save the city from Syndrome's robots.

This movie really surprised me. There was a lot of violence in this movie and Pixar didn't try to hide it. In a lot of movies you will see a ship blow up and the people escape by an ejector seat. Not so in this movie: a bad guy crashes, and he dies. Another thing that I thought was great was the subtle hints to things older people would get. There were a lot of visuals that reminded me of Star Wars, and my favorite line "Whenever someone runs, take a drink."

Now the movie was great in the theater, but it was even better on DVD. The one thing I really wanted to see was the new short entitled "Jak Jak's attack". This is what happened when he listened to Mozart and was being babysat. It was a great scene that really ties everything together. I don't know why this wasn't included in the original movie, at least at the end of the credits or something.

Overall this is one of the best-animated movies of all times. Scratch that, it is one of the better movies. The plot is great, the characters are well developed, the animation was smooth and it had something for everyone. I have no choice but to give this movie a full rating of 4 filmstrips.
