I'd heard very mixed opinions when it came to this movie, which is the main reason I didn't head straight to the theater to see it. The movie, however, is definitely worth the price in renting it.
Leigh Whannell made his ump into the screenplay writing world with this movie, and also starred as Adam, one of the main characters in the movie. Cary Elwes, who is probably best known for his role in Princess Bride, plays Dr. Gordon.
The movie is based on puzzles and how people value their current lives. The movie jumps back and forth between the current situation, and how Adam and Dr. Gordon's lives were going up until the moment they found themselves chained to pipes in opposite corners of a large bathroom, complete with a dead body in the seperating them.
The acting was just okay at some points. Elwes wasn't extremely convincing has someone who should have been scared of out of his mind. I was impressed with Whannell, mainly because I hadn't seen him in anything before, but also because he did a great job. Being the screenplay writer, though, probably gave him the advantage with that.
Generally speaking, once I started this movie, I barely moved. It was that intense. The ending was the typical psychological horror/thriller ending, which I should have been, but was not expecting.
I couldn't give it a 4, because I was so disappointed with the acting, but it's definitely worth watching.
And, guess what? There's already a sequel in the making. |
