When this movie first came out I thought it was a knock off of 8 mile. Then it won all kinds of awards and I still didn't go see it. No reason why I waited so long, other than I just didn't get around to watching it.
I am glad I did watch it. It was a good movie. It told a good story, a somewhat predictable story, but it still told it well.
For those that live under a rock and didn't hear squat about this movie, here's the quick run down. Black guy living in the ghetto is tired of barely making ends meet. He is a drug dealer and a pimp. He trades some pot for a small electric keyboard. Then he remembers how well he used to flow back in the day and decides to record it and make a better life for himself.
Interesting, now that I just gave the brief overview I like the movie a little less. It was very predictable.
But on the good side, there were some amazing performances by the actors. I can't find fault with any of the actors. They all did an amazing job. I was completely convinced by all of their performances.
Overall it was a decent movie. Nothing new other than the sound track. If you want a movie that you know will happen but tells the story of "If you work hard, your dreams will come true" then this is it for you.
