Bernie Mac. Ashton Kutcher. How could a movie with those two NOT be funny?
When the trailers started popping up for this movie, I really could not wait to see it. As with most comedies, though, the funniest parts were exactly what you saw on TV.
Kutcher stars as Simon, a 20-something guy working in the finance field, who is about to meet his girlfriend/fiance's parents for the first time. Of course, there'd be no point if it were just a normal introduction, but think Meet the Parents and sprinkle in an interracial relationship, and you've got yourself a comedy, folks.
Bernie Mac has been hilarious in any movie I've ever seen him in. He always plays these serious characters that nobody really wants to mess with, and he always plays those roles perfectly.
Percy Jones is the name of this Bernie Mac character. Percy Jones is a very proud and protective father, and gives Simon an insanely brutal time for the weekend they're together.
The friend I saw the movie with is in an interracial relationship, and said she was offended after seeing the movie. This is coming from someone who does not get easily offended at all.
It's a cute movie. Probably more worth the matinee price, then the full admission. No matter when you see it, you'll definitely laugh a time or two, but it just didn't hold up to the potential that it could have had with two hilarious actors in the title roles. |
