Before this movie started I said to myself that there was going to be some stupid computer thing that was not real and that it would ruin it for me. Thankfully there wasn't such a thing that happened like that.
The premise for the movie is that Jessica Martin (played by Kim Basinger) is kidnapped. She is trapped in an attic with a broken phone and some how manages to put it back together and make a random call. Ryan is the unlucky guy who receives said call.
He goes to great length to help her by going to the police to her son's school and other locations through out the movie.
Two things kind of irked me in the movie. The first is that he is driving and his "line got crossed" with someone else. This is unlikely, but could happen. The other was Dat Phan. I watch the Last Comic Standing show and he was promoting his new movie Cellular in the 3rd season. I was all excited to see he had a real role, and well he plays a very minor character that is there for just a bit of comic relief and nothing more.
My favorite scene has to involve him needing a charger for his cell phone and going into a cell phone store. The entire "take a number and wait" was extremely funny and true.
William H. Macy played a retiring cop and he did a great job with the role. None of the cast put on just an amazing performance, but they did their job and got me to suspend my disbelief and get caught up in the movie. Overall I give this a rating of 3 out of 4.
