I don't know why I bought Broken Flowers when it came out on DVD. At the time I think it was because Bill Murray was getting a lot of praise for his work and I had just finished watching Lost in Translation which was great.
The movie is about Don Johnston (played by Murray) who seems to have a good life. Only problem is he can't seem to commit to any particular female. He also has a great charm about him with the women, but that's not much to worry about.
He receives a letter from a female that he dated 20 years earlier saying that he had a son and that the son was on a road trip looking for him. Unfortunately the letter is not signed so he starts out on a road trip to find the four possible women it could be to see if they did in fact have a child 20 years earlier.
The story drags. It is very slow. The movie tries too hard to be an artsy type movie with all these shots. I get the fact that his road trip takes a while, but no reason to have around 5 minutes of the 100 minutes dedicated to scenery shots of him driving.
The movie left me wanting more as it didn't really end the way it should have. But of course I want more in a sped up sort of way. There were plenty of moments where I would have loved to have seen a bit more, but I just didn't get it.
Overall I have to give this movie a 2 because the speed was just so slow. |
